Immerse in the Pleasures and Treasures of Provence Aboard the Barge Napoleon
Named for one of France’s most iconic personalities, and offering an ideally luxurious experience for those intrigued by the grapes, gastronomy, and culture of Provence, the Deluxe class,12-guest Napoleon provides an in-depth introduction to this beloved region.
As she gently plies the River Rhone, Provence’s major waterway, the gorgeous warmth of southern France is reflected in the barge’s opulent interior, with ornate provincial colors — rich reds, golds, and greens — offering a welcoming invite inside.
Consisting of three separate levels and boasting six beautifully appointed cabins, there is ample space for pampered passengers both to socialize and enjoy privacy while cruising.
“The top deck is the perfect retreat to sit back, a glass of wine in hand, and watch the scenery pass by,” advises freelance travel writer Olivia Balsinger, who recently cruised on the Napoleon as a Barge Lady Cruise Correspondent.
Of course, no barge cruise is complete without a sumptuous sampling of France’s food and wine. Showcasing the freshest ingredients from regional markets and local suppliers lining the River Rhone, all menus onboard are freshly prepared by an expert Chef.
Presented either in the glamorous dining room or al fresco on the spacious deck, meals are enhanced by expertly matched wines from the area’s vineyards.
“The Chef takes pride in explaining his meal creations for guests, consistently making an appearance at meals to not only share what we were eating but how he created and sourced it,” says Olivia. “The relaxed pace and attentive service during mealtimes allows all barge guests to unwind following a busy itinerary…and truly indulge.”
Even the arrival to and departure from the Napoleon is conceived at a Deluxe level, including pre-booked First Class TGV train transfers to and from Paris. Accordingly, Barge Lady guests consistently rave about their week of French lifestyle, food, and fun on the Napoleon! SO MUCH MORE THAN WE EXPECTED
The whole experience was virtually perfect! This cruise is now the new benchmark against which all other trips will be judged.
Although the Barge Ladies sent out important cruise information well in advance so that we were well-prepared for the trip, our week on the Napoleon was so much more than we expected.
OUR BEATIFULLY APPOINTED CABIN
While the cabin was compact, it was stylishly decorated and beautifully appointed. From the premium toiletries to the luxurious linens, there was nothing that we lacked.
The walk-in shower had wonderfully strong pressure and the bed was comfortable. Because we had the stateroom on the main deck, we had a full-sized window that could be opened.
FAIRY GODMOTHERS / FATHERS
The crew was wonderful! We cannot say enough good things about Napoleon’s onboard team. They were ALL exceptional, every single one of them.
They were like fairy godmothers/fathers that existed to see to our every need and want! Additionally, they made us feel as if they were having fun along with us.
BROWSING, BOUTIQUES, AND BARGING
All of the excursions were well thought out, and neither too long or too short. Our Tour Guide chauffeured us to and showed us around places that almost anyone would enjoy visiting.
When the crew realized that the ladies would like time to browse the boutiques in the pedestrian areas, they modified the schedule, allowing us more free time in Avignon.
DELICIOUS MEALS, PERFECT WINE PAIRINGS
The cuisine was extraordinary! There was not a meal or a dish that wasn’t delicious. Every day we sat down to a wide variety of options for both breakfast and lunch.
For dinner, our Chef accommodated dietary preferences without compromising culinary excellence. Additionally, the wine pairings were perfect. We especially enjoyed the local reds.
